What activities will I be undertaking as a volunteer?
The types of activities you will be undertaking will include:
- Moving furniture to roadside for collection – fittings and debris, not fixtures or anything that requires powered equipment
- No manual labour above 20kg but only something two people can lift
- No ripping up of carpets or flooring
- You will not be using water to clean due to restrictions
- Power tools are not permitted
To volunteer for these shifts, you will need to:
- Take and follow direction. A supervisor will be in place to sign you on/off and give direction. View the Volunteer Acknowledgement and Attendance Record here.
- Be prepared to conduct work of a physical nature, including carrying light furniture, walking, standing for long periods of time and work in humid conditions
- Wear – hat/sunscreen, closed shoes (such as gumboots), long sleeves and long pants
- Bring – shovel, bucket, insect repellent, gloves and face mask, hi-vis vest, bottle of water
- Carparking is available
How long will I be required to help?
Shifts are offered to you as and when Council needs your assistance, based on where you live and whether they have a recovery crew scheduled in that area. Each shift is generally up to 5 hours long so be sure to wear and bring those items listed above for your comfort.
