What is the Care Army?
The Care Army is made up of everyday Queenslanders who want to help older and vulnerable community members who may not have a circle of friends, family or neighbours to support them and provide company. The primary focus of the Care Army is to boost social connection and support access to essential services such as the delivery of groceries and medicines for Queensland’s seniors.
What does a Care Army volunteer do?
Care Army volunteers support volunteer involving organisations that deliver services to vulnerable community members. They need assistance with simple things like getting groceries and other essential supplies, attending medical appointments, using communication and entertainment technology, garden care, or simply need a friendly face to provide company and reassurance.
Care Army volunteers are also playing an important role in the recovery process of Community Organisations that have experienced a reduction in their volunteer force since the pandemic. Volunteer Involving Organisations depended on the work of their volunteers to continue delivering their services, however, their volunteer workforce hasn’t returned to the numbers they had before 2020.
Volunteering Queensland works with the Queensland Government to administer the Care Army program, facilitating the recruitment and placement of volunteers.
How the program works
- Register as a Care Army volunteer and we will let you know, by email, when an Organisation requires your help to support a vulnerable community.
- Let us know if you are available for the position and we will share your details with the Organisation that coordinates the support.
- The Organisation will contact you by phone or email to provide more information and conduct their regular engagement processes.
- Then you start volunteering for as long as you can do it. You can even become a regular volunteer if you want.
